1. Step ashore at Anchorfall
Press Play now and you are on the quay in seconds: at most two screens stand between you and control. Anchorfall is the harbour town where every captain starts, and it is always safe from other players. Raiders come ashore by the Galley Market in the opening chapter, and the fight teaches you to move, block and strike, one thing at a time.
2. Take your free Relic Fruit
Visit the Tidemark Shrine and choose your first Relic Fruit: Saltglass, Inkwell or Gullcry. It is free and it is yours. Remember the price: a fruit eater cannot swim. More on Relic Fruits.
3. Find a teacher and a weapon
You already know Bare Fists. Every other fighting style is taught by a teacher in their own hut, and the smith’s yard sells your first blades. Pick a weapon class you like and keep using it: mastery climbs with every swing, up to level 300.
4. Beat Captain Brakka
At level 4, sail to Breaker Cay and storm the Hulkhold. Captain Brakka swings an anchor hammer: watch for the marked ground before her Breakwater slam, step out of the shockwave, and punish her after a big swing. Bring a crewmate if you have one. Brakka’s fight in detail.
5. Set sail
Your first ship is a small one. The islands are laid out in level order, so the next one always fits: Gallowmere from level 7, Kilnmouth from 14, and on through the First Sea. Hulls get bigger as you go, and a blue-water hull is one of the keys to the Gate at level 175. The full chart.

- Fighting other captains stays off until you turn it on.
- Every key can be moved on the Keybinds page, and every hint shows your current key.
